On Krak : The KrakaTome : Rock and Roll is a Business Rock and Roll is a Business But I've got a day job Saturday, April 28 2007, 08:00 AM
Looking at the website now I realize that the last time this web site was really touched was in 2002. That was five years ago. A lot has changed since then. Jeff (bassist and blogger) left the band, and we added Fred. Well, not that much has changed.
We're still playing many of the same songs, but lately we've been on a creative roll again. We started coming up with new stuff, and updating some of the old favorites. I spoke with Rob (our band manager, now living in New Jersey) and he said that he was totally willing to book us gigs from New Jersey if we could just get our press kit together. I think he was serious, too.
It's funny to me that nobody in the band wants to play out enough to get it together and just do it. Every once in a while we'll play a gig, but mostly we're just content to play the basement. Lately it's occurred to me that we need to start inviting people to our practices and just have those be the gigs. We're always better in front of an audience, and if we just play the Krakatomb then there's no niggling fear that industry people could be in the audience throwing off your vibe. Not that we ever worried about that anyway.
Our last few practices have been pretty interesting. Two weeks ago we just started playing some music, loosely based on new ideas, but full songs came out. It was so refreshing to have a brand new song just spring to life in front of you like that. It's one of the main reasons I enjoy playing with the band, for those moments. Maybe if somebody posts some feedback I'll clean up the recording of practice and put it up there. If people start coming, I could post lots of new musical ideas that we're playing with. I feel a creative blossom coming on.
But I'm ready to start putting an effort into getting things going seriously again. It's been five years since we quit taking care of the website and now it's been fixed and updated. And with this entry, the band blog is back in business so we don't have to be embarassed by those dates from 2002 anymore.
Though I'm sure I'll be back in 2012, horrified that this was the last blog entry.
