The KrakaTome
On Krak : The KrakaTome : Krakathoom Unplugged! Krakathoom Unplugged! A month later... Thursday, January 24 2002, 12:48 PM
Were back from hiatus, sort of. The KrakaTomb is in the middle of a major remodeling project, so we werent able to practice down there last night. Richard has all the gear stowed upstairs in the library. So I suppose we could set up for a full jam in the living room or the dining room, but that doesnt mean we should. So we didnt. Instead, we sat in the living room and played acoustic instruments. It was kind of like the old days, when we first started. Except now we have Pete with his bongos and miscellaneous percussion toys. And I have an acoustic bass. And we have more songs. And its in a different house. So really, I guess it was kind of different after all.
Anyway, we played a couple of songs that wed never played acoustic before, including Just and Two Rivers and Frog. We also played some old songs. It was a little weird to be singing without microphones, especially when we were harmonizing, but we managed. We werent Simon & Garfunkel squared, or anything, but it was nice to get together and play some songs, even in a totally different format.
I think some of us were tempted to stick with the acoustic thing for some more practices, especially since its not yet clear when the KrakaTomb will be habitable again. On the other hand, if we get offered a gig in the next couple of months, we might be in a bad position in terms of preparedness for a full-on, plugged-in rock performance. So we appear to have three choices: 1) extend the hiatus, 2) be an acoustic coffeehouse band for a while, or 3) find another practice space. Were looking into option number three.
Of course, its not like were in danger of getting gigs in the immediate future. Were still working on getting the press kit together. Our research indicates that a press kit consists of a demo CD (done, but Jeremys fine-tuning it), a one-sheet band bio (Im working on that), an 8x10 glossy (were researching photographers who will work for cheap or free) and sometimes a sticker (Richard and Rob are looking into that, and Richards going to design a logo). I personally think that all the steel beams that are in the KrakaTomb will make an excellent setting for a photo shoot, so well see what happens there.
Stay tuned. We may be a band without a home for now, but were getting back to work.
