We are the people that our mothers warned us about.

What kind of music do you play?
We play good music.

No, seriously.
Dammit, we hate this question. We play rock & roll. It's got kind of an alternative spin, but it's very melodic and accessible, with vocal harmonies and everything. We've been compared to bands you've heard, but we don't like those bands so we're not going to say which ones. Just trust us, you'll like it when you hear it.

What kind of name is Krakathoom, anyway?
Read a comic book sometime. Notice how they employ non-verbal sound effects transliterated into the Roman alphabet, such as "boom," "thwap," and "kaboom." The loudest of these, and thus rarely used, is "KRAKATHOOM!." Hence the name. Perhaps it's a bit of a misnomer for a band that doesn't mic its drums, but so what? Also, we dig the rhythmic sound of it. Except when people think we're in a band called "Crack of Doom" or "Chaka Khan." It's also handy for the punning.

Didn't you used to be called Ike?
Yep.

And Verbal Love Tap before that?
Just so.

Why all the changes?
Not all of us liked Verbal Love Tap, so we changed it to Ike. Then we found out there was another band called Ike at about the same time that our lineup changed. Thus the name change. We've had this name for almost this entire millenium, so leave us alone.

When's your next gig?
We'll get back to you on that.

Why don't you play in bars and stuff?
Why don't you? It's harder than it looks getting into those places, dude.

What's that song of yours I heard on the radio?
Yeah, that's funny. You crack us up.

Do you have a CD I can buy?
No, not yet. But we're working on it.

What about t-shirts, magnets, posters, stickers, temporary tattoos, lunchboxes, and action figures?
We're hoping to have stickers done soon. Other than that, we're in this to make music, not sell merch. Besides, we don't have a source for that stuff and don't really know what the market for it would be anyway. The main reason, though, is that we haven't gotten around to it yet. If other Krak-ccesories become available in the future, you'll be able to get them via this website. Waitaminute-action figures?

Can I hear your music online somewhere?
We're working on it. We're in the process of recording some songs, and maybe when that's done we can translate them to MP3 files and upload them here. Or possibly at mp3.com. Stay tuned.

Why don't you have a recording contract yet?
We don't particularly want one. Even if we wanted to make a career of this, the major labels completely screw their artists on every possible level and we want no part of that. Also, nobody has made us an offer. So clearly, everyone's happier this way.

What about the smaller labels?
Are you offering?

No.
Quit wasting our time then.

Who's the band's leader?
Our fans are! No, actually we don't have a leader. It's a democracy. Each of us has creative input, veto power, and a small standing army.

Who writes the songs?
Mostly Jeremy and Richard. Check out the band journal if you want to learn more about the process.

Your website R0QZ!!1!!! Who designed it for you?
That was Richard. All Richard. He is a 733t H4x0r d00d. You should hire him.

Why do you know so many covers?
We played at a wedding reception in June 2000 for a couple of friends of Jeremy's. People seem to like hearing songs they know at that kind of thing, so we learned a bunch of covers. We even remember some of them.

You should go on VH-1's Cover Wars.
You should shut up.

Will you play at my wedding?
Hell no.

I'll pay you.
What do you think we are, whores? Like we just said, the answer is "probably not."

Will you play "Tainted Love?"
No.

Please?
No.

Pretty please?
Well, since you asked nicely...no. Absolutely not.
